When executives from industry and small and medium-sized enterprises come together to jointly simulate a cyberattack, one thing quickly becomes clear: the question is no longer whether a company will be attacked – but how well prepared it is in the event of an actual attack. On 21 April 2026, the interdisciplinary ENUR Expert Network hosted a cyber workshop at the North German Regatta Club. The response was impressive: the event was fully booked

From a click to a crisis: a scenario that could become reality

The focus was on a realistic case study: a single click on the wrong link, and suddenly a company comes to a standstill. IT systems are blocked, production is halted, a ransom demand is in the inbox, and staff and customers are waiting for answers. Together with other ENUR experts from the fields of IT forensics, law and insurance, Hendrik Schulze van Loon, Managing Partner at ORCA van Loon Communications, used his presentation to examine which communication strategy supports companies in a crisis – in their dealings with staff, customers and the public. Moderated by Dr Philipp Heinrichs in his capacity as managing partner, the session also examined the legal and insurance-related issues that truly concern executives in an emergency: from reporting obligations under the NIS 2 Directive to the personal liability of the CEO.

Interdisciplinary and practice-oriented

As part of the ENUR network, ORCA van Loon brings the communications expertise that makes all the difference in an emergency. After all, effective crisis prevention in the face of cyber-attacks requires interdisciplinary responses. And crisis communications that are developed and tested well in advance of an emergency. The panel discussion highlighted what experience repeatedly shows: AI-powered phishing attacks, which are now almost impossible to detect, are increasing the pressure on companies of all sizes to take action.

The event concluded with a get-together on the terrace, in glorious weather and with lively conversation. It was the perfect setting for a topic that will continue to occupy the business world for a long time to come.
